Practical Support

At SORCE our support workers are able to undertake a range of handy-person tasks. We can offer you a friendly service that also includes befriending and signposting.

The service is available to anyone living in and around the Southey, Shirecliffe, Owlerton, Parson Cross, Foxhill and Winn Garden areas of Sheffield.

We offer competitive rates for the service we provide.

SORCE operates on a not-for- profit basis.

Home Care

Inside the house

• replace light bulbs
• fit door chains/spy holes*
• fit window locks*
• fit replacement locks*
• fit smoke alarms
• fit draught excluders
• replace tap washers**
• change tap tops to lever action**
• take down / put up curtains
• put up shelving
• put up pictures
• secure loose carpets (using staples or tacks only)
• replace electric fuses and plugs
• replace broken toilet seats
• fit doorbells
• renew bath / basin sealants
• re hang internal doors
• fix loose floorboards

Outside the house

• replace fence panels
• repair garden gates / replace posts
• replace small window panes*
• small repairs to window/door frames*
• cut back shrubs, hedging and plants on access paths
• cut grass
• assist with shopping

* Cannot be carried out on UPVC windows or doors

** Complete replacements may be needed

Befriending

• accompanying to shops, doctors etc either by public transport or taxi
• a friendly chat
• help to make contacts - attend groups etc
• help to find out information i.e. local G.Ps schools etc
• sitting service for carers - full charge
